Matthew has used his photography skills to complement his design work since his early days of high school. He’s developed a range of photo skills, such as sports action, news events, and product studio portraiture. He has used his own images throughout the pages of Spacing and to support his freelance design work. In 2018, Matthew released his first photography book, The Beautiful Mess of Toronto Laneways, which was nominated for a 2019 Toronto Heritage Book Award. From 2022-2025, Matthew was the volunteer photographer of High Park Little League.

Laneways
Before releasing The Beautiful Mess of Toronto Laneways, Matthew was just collecting images of garages that caught his eye. The accumulation of photos over time, shot in a consistent style, made the book possible.

Baseball
From 2022-2025, Matthew documented the journey of his son’s rep baseball team at High Park Little League, winning two provincial titles and a visit to the 2025 Canadian Championships.

Landscape
While city and urban issues have been at the centre of his career, Matthew has a love for the outdoors and the wonders of nature.

Urban
Matthew has spent over two decades capturing images of Toronto and urban centres from around the world. He has a deep fascination with street infrastructure, architecture, and the absurd.

Studio
Matthew taught himself studio photography techniques when he realized he needed a photographer for the books Packaged Toronto and Souvenirs of Toronto Sports.

Spacing
Matthew uses his photography to complement the cover sections, articles, and features in Spacing magazine.
