Suburban Minor Hockey Dynasty

I spent much of my youth obsessed with playing, watching, and analyzing hockey. I grew up playing for the Willowdale Blackhawks in the north end of Toronto. We were an excellent team playing at A and AA levels, winning numerous tournaments, plus city and regional titles. My dad was also my coach and between the two of us we kept a treasure trove worth of memorabilia from those days in the 1980s and ’90s.

I took it upon myself to compile, photograph, and scan some of the most important items in our collection so that I could share it with a handful of former teammates who are still close friends with me. Sadly, one of those friends developed a terminal disease that put a definite timeline on his life; he was very happy to indulge in nostalgic walks-down-Memory-Lane during the days he had left. This urgency prompted me to finalize the layout and share it with our group of friends.

I used my old hockey equipment as props and dug through storage to find trophies, medals, and other hockey knick-knacks. The end result was more than I could’ve hoped for — the quality of the printing is exceptional and has become a legacy book for each of our families.
